Weekend Planner: Events Happening Locally

Friday. One wonderful six letter word that makes each of us feel good and know that another week is complete and the weekend is upon us.

With the forecast calling for sunny days and temperatures in the low to mid 70s, it’s a good bet local residents in Deer Park and North Babylon will be looking for something to do in and around our towns.

One of our readers, Kevin Fay, posted in our events calendar information about a multi-family yard sale happening Friday through Sunday at 1418 14th St. in West Babylon, between 15th St. and Little East Next Road. The sale runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. They’ll be lots of stuff on sale, so go find your treasure.

Perhaps you would like to start the weekend with a free movie. The will show “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” at 1 p.m. Rated PG-13, the film stars Tom Cruise.

On Saturday, in North Babylon will be hosting a craft fair and car show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be vendors, food, raffles, a DJ, bake sale and of course, classic cars.

Once the car show at St. Paul’s closes, take a drive up Deer Park Ave. for Las Vegas Night hosted by and Parish Center. Open to those 21 and older, the fundraising event will include blackjack tables, slots, poker, roulette and more. Come out to help a great cause and who knows, you might even walk away with a few extra dollars in your pocket.

After a Saturday filled with classic cars and gambling, there’s a good chance some local residents will need to work off a few extra pounds. The Bulldog Challenge 5K Run/Walk will help accomplish that goal. Set to start at 9 a.m. at , the run/walk is a fundraiser to benefit school nurse Arleen Benson, who is fighting cancer. The fee is $25 for those who pre-register and $30 day of race. To register visit raceforum.com/BulldogChallenge.
