Bring the kids to the Lefferts Historic House from 1-4 p.m. to celebrate America's birthday and one of the greatest documents ever written. Look extra patriotic as you make yourself a plumed hat to wear while signing your own "John Hancock" on a reproduction of the Declaration of Independence. Meet at Lefferts Historic House located at Lincoln Rd & Ocean Ave.
The bald eagle has been our national bird since 1782 and is one of America's most recognizable icons. From 1-3 p.m., learn more about the role the eagle's image has played in shaping our nation’s identity through a panel exhibit and fun nature craft at the Audubon Center located at Lincoln Rd & Ocean Ave.
Coney Island Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest
This world-famous hot dog eating contest is held every year in Coney Island at 11:30 a.m. and 12 p.m., only a short train ride away. A $20,000 prize is granted to the winner of the challenge, so it's a feat worth watching. And while you're down there, hop on the Cyclone or the Wonder Wheel, take a walk down the Boardwalk and play some games.

Unfortunately, there isn't a great Brooklyn-based viewing location, but since this is a mainstay of Fourth of July celebrations in New York City, it's worth the trip into Manhattan.
