- East Flatbush came in as the second most dangerous neighborhood for car crashes in 2021, registering a total of 2,418, with fourth-most injuries and fatalities. Councilmember Rita Joseph has spoken about making street safety in the district a priority. (Streetsblog New York)
- Brooklyn may be the only borough in the city to see an increase in property taxes for small landlords, according to last-minute reforms proposed by De Blasio last week. The tax increase could particularly effect the owners of high market-value brownstones and row houses, but there's the possibility of exemptions for homeowners with low or limited incomes. For the upcoming year the Homeowner Assistance Fund opened yesterday. (Brooklyn Paper)
- Mayor Adams announced that public schools would remain open throughout the Omicron surge, stating in an interview that "calmness is competency," and saying that schools are a safer place for students than their home community.
