- Flatbush residents have until January 23rd to vote on three proposals as part of the city council's participatory budgeting process. One would create a three times a week running club, another would create after school tutoring programs for children, and the third would help public school students volunteer at a community garden. The neighborhood was selected by the Taskforce on Racial Inclusion and Equality to address COVID disparities in communities of color. (Brooklyn Paper)
- A travel blog released a "food guide" to Little Caribbean, highlighting small businesses including Hibiscus Brew, Errol's Caribbean bakery, and Immaculee Bakery. (TheTravel)
- Hometown Heroes: East Flatbush resident and nun Caroline Tweedy was nominated to become one of the Daily News's "Hometown Heroes." The head of the St. John’s Bread & Life food pantry in Bed-Stuy, she puts at least 250,000 meals on New Yorker's tables each year. (New York Daily News)
- Brooklyn tenants and activists marched across the Brooklyn Bridge to demand a continuation of a state-wide eviction moratorium, set to expire next weekend. Especially, they say, evictions shouldn't be taking place during the coldest season of the year. Hochul has made it clear over the past couple days that she has no intention of continuing the moratorium. The protest was attended by the Flatbush Tenant Coalition. (Brooklyn Paper)
