Schenectady Avenue Shooting Leaves 28-Year-Old Man Dead: NYPD
A 28-year-old man was shot dead early Sunday morning on Schenectady Avenue in East Flatbush, according to the NYPD.

EAST FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — A 28-year-old man was found dead in East Flatbush on Sunday morning, the victim of a gunshot to the back of the head, police said.
A 911 call to police at 6 a.m. reported the man's body in front of 1284 Schenectady Ave., according to the NYPD. Responding officers found the man lying face down. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. Police also recovered a nearby shell casing, the NYPD said.
An NYPD spokesman said the man may have been lying at the location for an hour. He also said that the NYPD's Shot Spotter system — a series of connected microphones that can record gunshots and estimate their location — was activated in East Flatbush at 1:50 a.m.

The system estimated that a gun had gone off at 787 E. 46th St., a tenth of a mile away from where the man's body was found. But the spokesman said he couldn't confirm that the two incidents were linked.
The man's name hadn't been released as of Monday morning, and a police investigation into the shooting was ongoing.

This shooting took place in the NYPD's 67th Precinct, which patrols East Flatbush. According to official police statistics, through Aug. 7, major crimes in the 67th were collectively up about 6 percent compared to the same period last year.
Shootings had increased as well. Through Aug. 7, a total of 33 shootings with 45 victims had been recorded, compared to 29 shootings with 33 victims during the same period last year.
