Two Pedestrians Killed In NYC Wednesday Night: NYPD

Breaking: One was killed in Brooklyn, the other in Queens.

NEW YORK CITY — Two pedestrians were killed in New York City on Wednesday night about an hour apart, first in Queens then in Brooklyn, according to the NYPD.

It started around 7:30 p.m. in Queens, when 67-year-old Henry Boimel was crossing 76th St. at 37th Avenue, near the Jackson Heights/Roosevelt Avenue subway station. He was hit and killed by an SUV that was making a right turn, police said.

The SUV's driver, Dinesh Bhattarai, was arrested, police said, and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.

Then, a woman was killed around 8:25 p.m. in Ditmas Park while walking on Caton Avenue and crossing over Saint Paul’s Place just south of Prospect Park. She was hit by a tractor trailer car carrier that was traveling along Saint Paul's, police said.

The woman, believed to be in her 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver was located.

An NYPD spokesman told Patch on Thursday morning that no arrests had been made, and the investigation is still ongoing.

NYC New York, citing police sources, said the driver of the truck didn't realize he had hit anyone.
