Alan Cumming Plans To Open 'Club Cumming' In The East Village

Alan Cumming plans to open a permanent 'Club Cumming ' in the East Village in September.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — The actor Alan Cumming is planning to transform an East Village bar into a permanent "Club Cumming."

Easternbloc, a popular neighborhood gay bar, is set to become a permanent installment of Cumming's pop-up eponymous clubs that he first started hosting from his dressing rooms. The Broadway actor and performer is partnering with Easternbloc's current owners, Benjamin Maisani and Darren Dryden, and club promoter Daniel Nardicio to launch the bar's newest iteration, Nardicio told Patch on Tuesday.

The New York Post first reported news of Cumming's plans on Monday evening.

Club Cumming will take over Easternbloc, 505 E 6th St., thanks to the popularity of the club's temporary versions, which the "Good Wife" star first hosted in his dressing rooms but also brought to other cities and venues. Cumming's dressing room-turned-club has been famously documented through celebrities' Instagram posts and is known for its brand cups, napkins and neon sign, the New York Times reported in 2014.

Nardicio told Patch that he approached Cumming about opening a brick-and-mortar version of the club, and that Maisani and Dryden were on board with the transformation. Nardicio said the bar will remain Eastern Bloc for the next few month before closing in August to become into Club Cumming, bringing with it some of the actor's energy and passions.

"Alan's obviously known as a live performer, so we want to bring that Broadway element downtown," Nardicio said. "We're thinking of doing more shows in the early part of the evening and then turning into the sexy bar later in the night."

"Alan wants it to be a home for everyone of all ages, all genders, all sexualities, who all enjoy letting go and making some mischief," a representative for Cumming told the Post. "No judgments, no attitude, no rules, except kindness, acceptance and fun."

"We want a vibe where anything can happen," Nardicio said.

Nardicio said the club was scheduled open in September.
