Suspicious Package In East Village L Train Station Deemed Safe

A suspicious package was found inside an East Village subway station on Tuesday.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — The NYPD bomb squad responded to an East Village subway station to investigate a suspicious package on Tuesday evening before ultimately declaring the area safe, authorities said.

Police got a phone call reporting the package inside the L train station located at First Avenue and E 14th Street at about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, an NYPD spokesman told Patch.

Police had evacuated the station and were still investigating the package for about 55 minutes on Tuesday. The package was deemed safe by 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Nearby residents and civilians reported on social media that their buildings had been evacuated while police investigated.

L train service between Manhattan and Brooklyn was briefly halted while police respond. The was no L train service between 8th Avenue and Bedford Avenue in either direction while authorities investigate.
