Celebrate McSorley's Birthday In The East Village

McSorley's, the famous East Village ale house, says Thursday marks 163 years of business for the pub.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — McSorley's Old Ale House is celebrating more than 150 years of serving the East Village with its famously paired-down menu of light or dark ales.

The Irish ale house says Thursday is its 163rd birthday, and is celebrating with cake, Irish music and its traditional brewskis. It's worth noting that McSorley's actual birthday is contested: The East Village mainstay says it opened its doors on this day in 1854, but local historian Richard McDermott says it actually opened in 1862. Either way, it's really old, so celebrate by heading over to the bar at 15 E 7th St. for a pint.
