Danny Meyer's East Village Pizzeria Will Open In August
NYC restaurteur Danny Meyer is helping to bring a new fast-casual pizzeria to the East Village.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — NYC restauranteur Danny Meyer's newest venture, a pizzeria, is set to open next month in the East Village.
The new spot, Martina Pizzeria, is scheduled to open in August, according to Esquire. The magazine profiled the fast-casual restaurant's executive chef Nick Anderer. Anderer has previously partnered with Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group to open the Italian restaurants Marta and Maialino.
Unlike Anderer's previous Italian restaurants, Martina Pizzeria will offer counter-service only, according to Esquire.

The new restaurant, located at 198 E 11th St., will be "Roman-inspired," and will open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, according to the hospitality group's description. The space will be relatively small, according to Eater, with just 13 tables plus a sidewalk cafe.
"Drawing inspiration from the bustling neighborhood pizzerie of Rome that churn out thin-crust pizzas, fried snacks, cold beer, local wines, and seasonal antipasti, Martina brings the casual and cozy vibe of Rome’s side street eateries to the heart of the East Village," the Union Square Hospital Group wrote about the eatery.

An exact opening date for Martina hasn't yet been set.
Meyer is one of NYC most prolific restauranteurs, having launched some of the city's most successful dining spots, including Shake Shack. He's also famous for instituting a no-tipping policy at his Union Square Hospital Group restaurants, instead including gratuity in the price of the meal. The group is gradually rolling out the policy to all 14 of its restaurants that have table service.
