East Village Cafe Priced Out Of Neighborhood: Owners

EAST VILLAGE, NY — The Ost Cafe in the East Village will close its doors on Sunday because the neighborhood has become too expensive for small businesses, according to the cafe's owners. For more news from the East Village and New York City, sign up for Patch's news alerts here.
The coffee shop and wine bar's East Village location, 441 East 12th St., is shutting down because the area has become too expensive for the cafe to remain open, according to a Facebook post from the cafe's management. The cafe's managers faulted city government and the real estate industry for not promoting or enabling small businesses.
"Short of charging $10 a cup, we can no longer make ends meet selling just coffee and wine, and options are limited," the cafe's management wrote in the Facebook post. "'Ost Café and 24-Hour Vape Shop Emporium' just doesn’t have the same ring to it."
