Man Attacks 7 Asian Women In 2 Hours, Including In East Village

A man randomly punched, elbowed, and pushed seven Asian women in Manhattan Sunday, NYPD's Hate Crime Unit is investigating.

LOWER MANHATTAN, NY — A man went on a two-hour attack rampage in Manhattan Sunday night during which he punched, elbowed, and pushed seven different Asian women, police said Tuesday.

Two women were rushed to the hospital and several others treated for cuts after their encounters with the man, whom the NYPD's Hate Crime Unit is investigating.

All of the attacks took place between 6:30 and 8:40 p.m. and spread across Midtown, Gramercy Park, NoLita, and the East Village, police said.

The women ranged from 19 to 57 years old.

In each case, the man exchanged not one word with his victim before lunging to attack, police said.

Police released video of the suspect, who has light blond hair and carries a backpack.

Here are the details of each attack, according to police.

6:30 p.m: Madison Avenue and East 30th Street

The man punched a 57-year-old Asian woman and punched her in the face, police said. The woman suffered facial swelling and a cut on her lip, and took herself to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

6:40 p.m: Fifth Avenue and East 30th Street

The man punched a 25-year-old Asian woman in the face and back of the arm, police said.

The woman's face also swelled up, but did not require medical attention, police said.

6:45 p.m: Park Avenue South and East 23rd Street

The man punched a 21-year-old Asian woman in the face, police said.

She suffered a cut and swelling to her mouth, and was transported to the NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue by emergency services in stable condition, police said.

6:50 p.m: Irving Place and East 17th Street

The man punched a 25-year-old Asian woman in the face, police said. She was left with a cut and swelling upper lip, but did not require medical attention at the scene, police said.

7:05 p.m: Union Square East and East 17th Street

The man elbowed a 19-year-old Asian woman in the face, police said.

She was also cut in the lip and did not require any medical attention, police said.

7:25 p.m: East Houston Street and Mott Street

The man elbowed a 25-year-old Asian woman in the mouth, police said.

The woman suffered swelling and bleeding to the lower lip, and emergency services treated her at the scene, police said.

8:37 p.m: Broadway and East Eighth Street

The man shoved a 20-year-old Asian woman to the ground, police said.

She suffered minor injuries to her hands and did not need medical attention, police said.


There have been no arrests as of Wednesday morning.
