Police Release Video of Man Who Attempted to Rape NYU Student Saturday

The woman was able to fight off the assaulter and tell campus security, but the attacker escaped.

A man attempted to rape a 20-year-old New York University student early Saturday morning while she was out walking on campus, police said.

The woman was walking south on Fifth Avenue toward West 10th Street at around 4 a.m. when the attacker approached her and started talking to her. He then grabbed her from behind and attempted to rape her, police said. She fought him off and he fled, and officers still don't know his whereabouts.

NYU administrators told DNAinfo the woman immediately reported the assault to NYU public safety officers when she returned to her dorm, and they contacted the NYPD. She initially refused medical attention, but later went to an area hospital for observation, police said.
