Man Steals $1,300 Sneakers From 12-Year-Old In The East Village, Police Say

Police say a man promised to pay a 12-year-old $1,300 for a pair of sneakers and then took off without paying.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — A man stole sneakers from a 12-year-old boy last month after he agreed to pay $1,300 for them and then took off without paying, police said.

Officers are searching for a 21-year-old man who they say agreed to meet the 12-year-old on Friday, Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. The man agreed to pay $1,300 for the sneakers and to pick them up in an apartment building near East Seventh Street and Second Avenue, according to the NYPD. When the 12-year-old and the man met inside the building, he man took the sneakers and then ran away without paying, police said. The boy was not injured.
