Worker Crushed By East Village Elevator, FDNY Says

The man was critically injured, an FDNY spokesman said.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — A man trapped beneath an elevator in an East Village building was rushed to the hospital in critical condition on Wednesday morning, fire officials said.

The man, who is believed to be an elevator mechanic, was stuck under the elevator at a building at 380 Lafayette St., an FDNY spokesman told Patch. Firefighters responded at 11:04 a.m. and he was rushed to Bellevue hospital in critical condition after being rescued, the spokesman said. The fire department was not immediately able to provide additional details about the man or his condition.

In a separate incident, four people were trapped inside an elevator stuck underground in a Consolidated Edison plant in Brooklyn on Wednesday morning. Firefighters managed to rescue the people after more than three hours.
