NYC Outdoor Public Pools Reopen, Including 3 In The East Village

EAST VILLAGE, NY — Families and New Yorkers looking for a place to cool off this summer celebrated on Tuesday as public outdoor pools reopened across the five boroughs, including in the East Village.

The pools reopened despite a nationwide lifeguard shortage, meaning that some pools might have to adjust their hours and fully close on certain days.

“Summer is here which means our pools and beaches are open to enjoy,” said New York City Mayor Eric Adams, in a news release on Tuesday. “I encourage New Yorkers to take advantage of the city’s public pools to stay cool, get some exercise, and have fun.”

The shortage recently caused Gov. Kathy Hochul to announce that lifeguards in New York City will now be making $22 an hour — up from $18.15.

Outdoor polls in the city are open from 11:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. daily, with a break for pool cleaning between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Unfortunately, due to the lifeguard shortage, all swim programs, including lap swim, senior swim, and Learn to Swim, have been canceled for summer 2022.

Dry Dock Pool: East 10th Street between Avenues C and D

Hamilton Fish Pond: Pitt Street and Houston Street

• Outdoor Olympic Pool Dimensions: 165' x 98' x 3.5'
• Outdoor Wading Pool Dimensions: 67' x 98' x 2.5'

Mini Pool in Thompkins Square Park

• Dimensions: 40' x 20' x 3'
