October Is Rent Freeze Month in the East Village
The Department of Finance will hold several events to help people who are eligible for rent freeze programs to enroll in them.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — Thursday marks the kick off to the East Side Rent Freeze Month of October, in which several enrollment events will try to get as many people as possible who are eligible for rent freeze programs into those programs.
As many as 800 households are eligible for Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE) and Disability Rent Increase Exemption (DRIE) programs who are not enrolled in them, according to a spokesperson for Council Member Daniel R. Garodnick. The October outreach events are meant to make it easier for eligible New Yorkers to enroll. Staff from the Department of Finance will be at the events to help.
Here are the eligibility requirements to enroll in SCRIE and DRIE. More details about the program's events are to be announced by the finance commissioner Thursday morning.
