Police Arrest Armed Robber Who Targeted East Village Haunt: NYPD

Police charged a 29-year-old for allegedly robbing four Brooklyn and Manhattan businesses at gunpoint.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — Police arrested a 29-year-old for a string of armed robberies in Manhattan and Brooklyn — including East Village watering hole Mona’s Bar and Grill.

Officers cuffed Sanjay McBayne of Gowanus, Brooklyn for allegedly robbing four stores at gunpoint.

The most recent caper occurred at Mona's Bar and Grill on Avenue B near E. 14th Street on Oct. 4 when McBayne allegedly pulled out a gun on an employee and demanded cash. The thief made off with $700 and fled north on Avenue B.

The three previous stick ups, all of which occurred within a weeks time in late September to early October, took place across the East River in Brooklyn.

McBayne has been charged with four counts of robbery and is due back in court on Oct. 12.
