Body Of Missing Riverside Man Found In East Hampton Woods: PD

EAST HAMPTON, NY — A hunter made a grisly discovery in the East Hampton woods Monday when he found the body of a Riverside man who was last seen in October, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, a hunter in the woods near State Route 114 in East Hampton located a deceased subject in the woods; East Hampton Town police and detectives, as well as Suffolk County homicide detectives, responded for the investigation, police said.

The Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office was contacted and removed the remains for further investigation.

The man was identified as Luis Vargas-Arias, 56, who had been reported missing in November 2024; no criminality is suspected at this time, police said.

Vargas-Arias was last seen on Friday, October 11, in New York City; he was believed to have taken the LIRR into New York, police said.
