E-Bike Rider Hit By Mack Truck In Montauk, Critically Injured: Police

The crash took place in Montauk Tuesday, police say.

MONTAUK, NY β€” An e-bike rider was seriously injured in a Montauk crash Tuesday, police said.

According to East Hampton town police, the incident took place on Edgemere Street at 9:54 a.m.

A Montauk man, 71, was driving a 2006 Mack truck with a trailer northbound on Edgemere Street in Montauk when an e-bike appeared to have entered his lane of travel from the northbound shoulder, causing the crash, police said. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with the investigation; no criminality is suspected at this time, police said.

The operator of the e-bike, Isaac D. Jarett, 24, also of Montauk, was treated by personnel from the Montauk Fire Department and subsequently transported to Stony Brook University Hospital via Suffolk police aviation, where he is listed in critical condition, police said.

The Suffolk County Police Department's motor carrier Unit responded to the scene and conducted a safety check on the Mack truck, police said.
