Here are the top stories today in East Hampton:
- Dan's Papers has a list of live shows, outdoor activities, art exhibitions and more. See what's happening in the Hamptons this Easter Weekend and beyond, April 15–21. (Dan's Papers)
- There are a number of events on the North Fork and East End to continue supporting the people of Ukraine. Ukrainian lives and culture at stake, please attend these events at our local arts institutions to show support. (Dan's Papers)
- I remember getting ducklings for Easter one year, I was a child and did not know how to care for them. People considering adopting rabbits and chickens need to consider their ability to commit to the care of the animals for years to come — and not just right now, Southampton officials warn. Consider alternates such as chocolate rabbits or stuffed rabbit and chick toys. (Southampton Patch)
- A Department of Environmental Conservation spokesperson confirmed that three owls, an adult great horned owl and two owlets, in Peconic, tested positive for the avian flu, which has been detected in several eastern states so far in 2022 and can be particularly dangerous for livestock. The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention said that the avian flu in birds is not an immediate public health concern. The DEC said the public should report dead ducks, geese, swans, waterbirds (including gulls), raptors, pheasants, turkey and grouse, or any group of five or more dead birds in one area to the regional DEC Wildlife office at wildlife.r1@dec.ny.gov or call 518-478-2203.
