Here are the top stories today in East Hampton:
- Eladio G. Paredes-Rosas, 24, an East Hampton man was heading east and seen "failing to maintain his lane of travel," police said. He was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Sagaponack Tuesday night, police said. (East Hampton Patch)
- Several flocks of birds have been affected with the avian flu, shutting down a Sag Harbor game farm. In what has been called the nation’s worst bird flu outbreak in years has come home to roost on the East End. Last month, state Department of Agriculture officials euthanized thousands of pheasants and ducks at Spring Farm. Officials suggest that you properly cook poultry and eggs to kill bacteria and viruses. No human cases have been found in the U.S. (Dan's Papers)
- Save a life, donate an unused cell phone! The phones will be repurposed into lifelines for Suffolk County’s most vulnerable residents. Collection bins are located at each Correctional Facility in the Visiting Lobby, at the Civil Enforcement Bureau in Yaphank, and at 1st District Court in Central Islip. - St. John, a popular clothing retailer with "Hampton and NYC" vibes, has opened a shop at the Tanger Outlets in Riverhead. St. John is known for their simple and elegant knits. To find St. John, look for the Bloomingdales outlet in Tanger. (Patch)
- Gas prices at the pumps have been climbing, more than a dollar per gallon in the span of a year. Both Nassau and Suffolk lawmakers will cap local sales tax collection on gas at $3. Maybe now we can breathe a little easier at the pumps. (Patch)
