Here are the top stories today in East Hampton:

1. The Town of East Hampton takes action to address airport traffic, noise and safety, environmental concerns. A vote is expected today, Jan. 20, on plans to deactivate East Hampton Airport, with early March closure, and then open a new publicly owned private-use airport that will operate under "prior permission required" framework, allowing the town to control airport use. 3. East Hampton will not be without power come the end of 2023. South Fork Wind, New York’s first offshore wind farm, received approval from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) to move forward with the project and begin construction. The project is estimated to power approximately 70,000 New York homes when it begins operations at the end of 2023. South Fork Wind will be located about 35 miles east of Montauk Point. Its transmission system will deliver clean energy directly to the electric grid in the Town of East Hampton. (Windpower Engineering)
