1. Kiwanis Collecting Toys For Children In Need. East Hampton Kiwanis Club is seeking donations of new, unwrapped toys to be distributed to local kids in need for the holidays. Through Dec. 21, people can drop off donations to several locations around town: M&R Deli and Herb's Market in Montauk, Brent's General Store in Amagansett, the Springs General Store and Springs Pizza, and the Clubhouse/East Hampton Indoor Tennis in Wainscott. In East Hampton, drop-off locations are the middle school, Village Hardware, One Stop Market, and the offices of the Corcoran and Brown Harris Stevens/Halstead real estate companies. Donations of money are also welcome, and will go toward buying additional gifts for the toy drive. (East Hampton Star)
2. New County Legislator For Flanders-Riverside Area Under Bitterly Disputed County Redistricting Plan. Residents of Flanders, Riverside and Northampton will find themselves in a new county legislative district next year, if a redistricting plan being advanced by the legislature’s current majority caucus wins final approval. The redistricting plan would move the hamlets in the northwest corner of Southampton Town from Legislative District Two to Legislative District One. LD-02 currently encompasses the entire Town of Southampton, as well as the towns of East Hampton and Shelter Island, and a slice of eastern Brookhaven Town south of the Peconic River. 3. Man Charged With Engaging In Sexual Conduct With Child. A Bridgehampton man was charged with engaging in sexual conduct with a child under the age of 13 in East Hampton. According to East Hampton Town Police, Jose Xiomar Vijil Villanueva, 49, was arrested and charged with second-degree course of sexual conduct; a person older than 17 engaging in two or more acts of sexual conduct with a child less than 13, a felony. He was also charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17. (East Hampton Patch)
