Here are the top stories today in East Hampton:
- Health officials urge wearing a mask, vaccinations and booster shots to limit the spread and to avoid serious illness or death. Also, East Hampton Town Senior Center programs have been suspended for a month in face of steep rise in COVID cases and Omicron variant. (Press Release Desk)
- Southampton Town officials declined to opt out of allowing retail and consumption establishments before the state’s year-end deadline for municipalities making Marijuana sales legal. Town officials estimate that sales could bring in $1 million to $2 million in tax revenue annually for the town. The towns of East Hampton, Hempstead, Oyster Bay, Huntington, Islip, Shelter Island, North Hempstead and Smithtown have opted out of the legislation. Riverhead officials narrowly voted to opt in, and Brookhaven and Babylon towns both opted in, as did Southampton, either by failing to schedule a public hearing or deciding not to take a vote on the matter. (Newsday)
- There is a lot of family fun to be had during the days between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Get out there and have fun with the kids by attending these family-based activities and events on the East End this week, Dec. 27–30. (Dan's Papers)
