  2. New Suffolk District Attorney Ray Tierney, a Republican, unseated Tim Sini and started Jan. 1. Tierney spoke with Patch after the win and outlined his plans moving forward, as well as thanking voters. "I am so humbled and grateful for the tremendous support I have received from everyone," Tierney said. "We made history, but this is just the beginning. I am ready to fight to keep the residents of Suffolk County safe." (Riverhead Patch)
  3. The new Suffolk County Police Commissioner, Rodney Harrison, pledged a new look at the cold case by taking a walkthrough with homicide detectives at the site of the 11-year-old Gilgo Beach serial killer investigation. Harrison said he had the opportunity to speak to the former police commissioner, outgoing District Attorney Tim Sini, and former commissioner Geraldine Hart "regarding their thoughts on what needs to be done or what was done in the investigation." Suffolk Police have a website called GilgoNews.com featuring updates on the investigation. Tips can be submitted by clicking here. (Patch)
