Here are the top stories today in East Hampton:

  1. Last year, the town conducted public workshops and studies to engage and inform both the public and the board to better understand the benefits and detriments created by the airport. East Hampton Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc said, "With the knowledge gained, we feel the best approach is to transition to a private use airport. This will allow us to put in place restrictions that are specifically targeted to improve residents' quality of life and improve the environment by reducing emissions." (East Hampton Patch)
  2. Ina Garten's easy peas side dish was originally a mistake, but it turned out to be a huge success. β€œSometimes a mistake turns out to be a blessing,” she wrote in the introduction to the recipe. Her intent was to order snow peas but instead received sugar snap peas, once she tasted them, she never looked back. Garten’s recipe for sugar snap peas with sesame was once featured on the Martha Stewart website, which noted, β€œThis is one of Ina Garten’s best sellers at her Barefoot Contessa gourmet food store in East Hampton, New York.” One taste was all it took for Garten to give the vegetable a try in her store. β€œThey were delicious!” she recalled. (Showbiz Cheat Sheet)
  3. The Suffolk County Police Department is accepting donations at each of the SCPD precincts and headquarters through Friday, Jan. 14 for the survivors of a New York City apartment building fire that killed 17 people and hospitalized dozens. The items needed are nonperishables, such as clothing, sheets, baby items and more. (Newsbreak)
