Here are the top stories in East Hampton today:
- During the pandemic, art dealer Max Levai, formerly of Marlborough Gallery, opened a gallery known as the Ranch. The Ranch is located on a functioning horse farm; this summer the gallery will open for two shows: one devoted to Werner Büttner that traveled from the Hamburger Kunsthalle in Germany; the other a show of Frank Stella’s sculptures. Both kick off this May. (ARTnews)
- District Attorney Ray Tierney said Tuesday, on April 21, two days after the home invasion where a teen raped a Mastic Beach mom, a teen was brought to the police station where he admitted taking part in the burglary. The suspect consented to a DNA test which later matched to a profile developed from a swab of the victim. The teen was indicted and charged with first-degree rape, criminal sexual act, and sexual abuse, as well as two counts of first-degree assault and burglary. He was additionally charged with one count of second-degree strangulation and endangering the welfare of a child. (Patch)
- The U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments last December on a Mississippi law that would ban most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, a case that represents a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade. A majority of Americans support the U.S. Supreme Court upholding its landmark decision in Roe v. Wade guaranteeing a constitutional right to abortion, according to a new Washington Post poll.
