East Hampton Declares State Of Emergency, Urges Some To Evacuate
Residents in some low-lying areas in East Hampton are urged to seek higher ground, town officials say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — As Henri advances on the East End, East Hampton Town Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc declared a state of emergency Saturday and urged residents in the most vulnerable surge zone to seek higher ground.
Van Scoyoc declared the state of emergency at 1:30 p.m.
A Red Cross shelter is set to open at East Hampton High School at 7 p.m. on Saturday, he added.

Henri is expected to make landfall early Sunday and bring dangerous winds, rain, and storm surges, town officials said.
The Town of East Hampton's emergency preparedness team was activated Friday and is following the developing storm; town departments from highway to marine patrol and police are prepared to respond, Van Scoyoc said.
