Israeli Nurse Who Saved Fellow Hostages’ Lives to Speak in East Hampton on July 27th

Nili Margalit's training at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev enabled her to administer critical care under extreme conditions.

Americans for Ben-Gurion University (A4BGU) is bringing a former hostage of Hamas to East Hampton to share her powerful account of resilience, compassion, and bravery.

A4BGU’s July 27th event at Jewish Center of the Hamptons will feature Nili Margalit, a Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) alumna, nurse, and faculty member who was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists on October 7th and held hostage in the Gaza Strip. Margalit’s training at BGU equipped her with the skills to administer critical care under extreme conditions, enabling her to heroically provide lifesaving treatment to fellow captives.

Margalit’s inspiring story is emblematic of how BGU and its community members are standing strong for Israel during wartime and spearheading the nation’s recovery. The University was directly and disproportionately impacted by October 7th compared to other Israeli academic institutions in terms of the number of students, faculty, and staff who were killed, wounded, kidnapped, and called to IDF reserve duty. Today, because of Iranian missile attacks that hit Beer-Sheva destroying medical labs and damaging buildings across the campus, the BGU community is continuing to navigate perpetual traumatic stress. Yet in no way did that stop them from leading the recovery from the attacks both regionally and nationally, through a wide array of volunteer and community service efforts.

“Nili’s story of survival, resilience, and heroism powerfully demonstrates BGU’s broader role in leading the way forward for all of Israel through its excellence in the face of adversity,” said Doug Seserman, CEO of A4BGU, who will be on hand at the event along with President of BGU Prof. Daniel Chamovitz.

A4BGU’s event — “Nili Margalit: Hostage, Survivor, Hero” — takes place Sunday, July 27th, 12 p.m. at Jewish Center of the Hamptons, 44 Woods Ln., East Hampton, New York 11937. Register at: https://jcoh.org/event/nili-margalit-hostage-survivor-hero/
