Man Arrested After Hitting 2 People On E-Bike In Montauk: Police

Both men who were on the e-bike are in stable condition, police say.

MONTAUK, NY β€” A man who crashed into two people on an e-bicycle was arrested after he fled the scene in Montauk Saturday, police said.

According to East Hampton town police, Suraj Gaire, 28, of Holbrook, was driving a 2022 Honda Pilot south on South Edgemere Street, near the intersection of South Euclid Avenue, at about 5:53 p.m. when his vehicle struck an e-bike operated by Gustav Roman, 31, of North Carolina, and Donald Gordon, 28, of Florida β€” a passenger on the bike.

Gaire fled the scene in the Honda and was arrested at 7:08 p.m. following a traffic stop on Cranberry Hole Road in Amagansett, police said. He was charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an accident with injury and is scheduled for arraignment at a later date, police said.

Rowan was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital and Gordon was transported to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital; both are currently in stable condition, police said.
