More Than 2.9K Without Power On LI During Tuesday's Winter Storm
High wind gusts left thousands across Long Island without power Tuesday during the winter storm.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Tuesday's burst of heavy snow and wind across Long Island left thousands without power. According to the PSEG Long Island outage map, as of 12:45 p.m., 2,902 remained without power Long Island-wide.
"As of 12:45p.m., 2,902 of our approximately 1.2 million customers are affected by the snow and wind," said PSEG LI media representative Elizabeth Flagler. "Outages are scattered across the service territory. As of 12:30 p.m., PSEG Long Island has restored power to more than 4,073 customers since 12:01 a.m. today. Crews will continue to assess the damage and restore outages safely and as quickly as possible."
The storm is the largest Long Island has seen in years, with about 4 to 8 inches of accumulation expected, according to Dominic Ramunni of the National Weather Service Office at Upton.

Snow is expected to fall until about 1 p.m.
Ramunni urged residents to stay off the roads if possible and said later, when the storm passes, they should be careful shoveling the heavy, wet, sticky snow, as that can lead to health impacts such as heart issues for some.

Temperatures are expected to drop to just below freezing Tuesday, in the low to mid-30s across Long Island and the East End.
Winds were expected to pummel Long Island, with 30 to 40 mile per hour gusts and sustained winds of 10 to 20 miles per hour possibly bringing down some power lines. Ramunni said.
It's two years to the day that Long Island saw 3 inches or more of snow, the last time was on Feb. 12, 2022, he said. "It's going to be a blustery storm as we go forward into the day," he said. "If you don't have to travel, I recommend folks stay in and enjoy the snowfall," Ramunni said.
