Plane Makes Gear-Up Landing At East Hampton Airport: Town

Airport personnel and town staff conducted a full sweep of the runway to clear any foreign object debris, town officials say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY β€” A pilot made a gear-up landing at East Hampton Airport Sunday night, town officials said.

On the evening of June 22, a Baron BE-G58 aircraft piloted by Curtis Doupe landed at East Hampton Town Airport without engaging its landing gear; the incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m., officials said.

There were no passengers on board, and the pilot was not injured, officials said.

East Hampton Town police and the East Hampton Fire Department responded to the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration was notified, and the airport was closed by Notice to Air Missions, officials said.

At 10:40 p.m., the FAA authorized the removal of the aircraft from Runway 10-28; at about 12:20 a.m., the aircraft was raised by East End Excavating and towed to the executive terminal, officials said. Around 30 firefighters stood by during the operation. Airport personnel and town staff conducted a full sweep of the runway to clear any foreign object debris, officials said.

The airport has since reopened and resumed normal operations. The FAA has advised the town that an investigator from the Flight Standards Office will visit the site on Monday, officials said.

"The Town of East Hampton thanks the responding agencies and Airport staff for their assistance with their response to this incident," officials said.
