Police Set Record Straight On Details Of Alec Baldwin's Crash Into Tree During Nor'Easter
"This is a one-car accident, there is no criminality and with no injuries no need for any further investigation."

EAST HAMPTON, NY — With a dashcam video surfacing online reportedly showing the moment when Alec Baldwin crashed his wife's vehicle into a tree Monday, East Hampton police have set the record straight on what officially happened.
A dashcam video posted by Newsmax and later shared by other outlets showed Baldwin's car hitting the tree.
"The dash camera video from the other vehicle was not part of our case and was not shared with the department," East Hampton Town Police Chief Michael Sarlo said. "The accident report is a valid account of the incident, with the contributing factors being a reaction to an uninvolved vehicle and slippery and wet roadway conditions. Our accident report is not a recital of what Mr. Baldwin put out on social media and places no blame on the other vehicle."

Sarlo added: "This is a one car accident, there is no criminality and with no injuries no need for any further investigation. Without witnessing a violation, and no specific witness account to directly indicate a violation, officers cannot issue a traffic summons."
And, said Sarlo: "It's important to note, his {Baldwin's} video commentary is not our official police report. Our comments previously were clear, and whole confirming the basic premise of what happened, it did not 'confirm' his account," Sarlo said.

When asked if the investigation was continuing, Sarlo said: "This is a single vehicle accident with no injuries. There is no investigation. This is standard procedure."
On Tuesday, police provided details into Baldwin's crash into a tree during a nor'easter Monday.
According to Sarlo, at about 12:01 p.m. on Monday, police responded to a motor vehicle accident on State Route 27, Pantigo Road, near Cross Highway.
A white 2023 Range Rover, operated by Baldwin, with his passenger and brother Stephen Baldwin, was found to have struck a tree on the eastbound shoulder of the roadway while avoiding the turning action of a 2020 Mack commercial truck, registered to National Waste Services out of Bay Shore, Sarlo said.
There were no injuries reported or summons issued and the contributing factors to the accident were found to be a reaction to an uninvolved vehicle and the slippery and wet roadway conditions, Sarlo said.
Baldwin posted a message on Instagram Monday night assuring the many who'd reached out that he is "fine" after a car accident in East Hampton during a nor'easter.
"I just want to post a quick message," he said. "I got all these inquiries. I was in a car accident this morning. I'm fine. My brother Stephen was out visiting me on Long Island. We spent the weekend out there for the film festival."
Baldwin is co-chair of the board executive committee for the Hamptons International Film Festival.
"This morning I was in this car accident," Baldwin said. "A guy cut me off in a truck, a garbage truck, a big garbage truck the size of a whale. It must have been something commercial, taking away material from construction or something. It was the biggest garbage truck I've ever seen."
Baldwin continued: "To avoid hitting him, I hit tree. I hit a big, fat tree and crushed my wife's car. I crushed my wife's car; I feel bad about that. But it's all fine and i'm fine and my brother's fine."
Baldwin thanked the East Hampton Town Police Department for "coming to my aid." He specifically thanked East Hampton Town Police Officer Ian Gerken, who he said was "as nice as can be and as pleasant as can be about the whole thing."
His wife's car, Baldwin said, "is pretty smashed up."
Baldwin then said he was going to Los Angeles to see his family, "to gather my family together and spend a few days out there and then I'm coming home."
Baldwin mentioned his wife Hilaria, with whom he shares seven young children. "I'm still so proud of my wife. Hilaria, I love you more than anything and I'm very proud of you."
Alec Baldwin then congratulated everyone involved with the Hamptons International Film Festival.Baldwin added, again: "I'm fine."
