PSEG Long Island Working To Restore Power To Residents Left In Dark By Nor'Easter
Initially, more than 4,000 customers saw service interruptions, PSEG Long Island says.

LONG ISLAND, NY — PSEG crews have been working round-the-clock to restore power to the more than 4,000 customers who were initially left in the dark after a nor'easter socked Long Island with damaging winds, heavy rain and coastal erosion Sunday into Monday.
As of noon Monday, there were currently 3,740 of 1.2 million customers across Long Island and the Rockaways without power; PSEG Long Island had restored power to more than 85 percent of customers affected by the heavy rain and significant winds that downed trees, branches and wires, causing scattered power outages throughout the service area, PSEGLI said.
All PSEG Long Island employees have mobilized to support the restoration efforts, including more than 900 line workers, tree trimmers, surveyors and other field personnel. In addition, about 580 off-Island personnel are on site to address outages. Personnel have responded to more than 90 downed trees and large limbs across the service area, PSEGLI said.

"We expect the majority of customers impacted during the overnight to be restored today. We will continue to experience additional outages as the winds continue and we have enough personnel to respond effectively to these incoming outages," PSEGLI said. "Crews have been working in difficult conditions throughout the night and will continue to work safely and as quickly as possible until all outages are restored."

- Downed wires should always be considered "live." Stay as far away as possible from them, and if possible keep others, children, and pets away from the wire. Do not drive over or stand near any downed wire. To report a downed wire, call PSEG Long Island’s 24-hour Electric Service number at 800-490-0075 or call 911.
- Electric current passes easily through water. If you encounter a pool of standing water, stop, back up and choose another path.
- Never use a generator or any gasoline-powered engine inside your home, basement, or garage or less than 20 feet from any window, door, or vent. Use an extension cord that is more than 20 feet long to keep the generator at a safe distance.
