The original St. Luke’s, a wooden structure, was consecrated in 1859. Prior to that, services were held at Clinton Academy. In 1907, flaky, multi-hued black mica stones were brought to East Hampton to construct the stone edifice of the current church. The stones were blasted from beneath the East River when the first subway tunnel was built to connect Queens to Manhattan.
