This Guy had an Office Romance and Paid for it with his Job as Peconic Baykeeper

It’s only the first day of spring. But the Hamptons has already seen what is shaping up as a mini trend: public (and semi public) officials getting caught with their pants down and losing their jobs as a result.

Remember the East Hampton Village cop who snuck into a cottage on Talmadge Lane for some afternoon delight with his girlfriend, a part-time traffic enforcer and maid who worked at the house in question? It was a surprise for everyone involved when three house guests showed up unexpectedly and walked in on them—leading to her dismissal and his suspension. For more check out The New York Post.

Now, it’s the Peconic Baykeeper. According to an article in Newsday, his name is Kevin McAllister, and for the last 16 years he’s helmed the organization that works to keep the waterways of Long Island clean. His own dirty laundry got aired earlier this month when he was fired for “a consensual relationship with a staff member 18 months ago.” 

It’s a far cry from trespassing for “a sexual encounter,” but apparently it was enough for the board of Peconic Baykeeper, Inc. The group says it’s continuing its work, but according to McAllister’s attorney, "He is the Peconic Baykeeper -- he is the whole group." Who’ll be the next to get embroiled in a sex scandal—a librarian? A historical society museum docent? Stay tuned.
