"The voters have spoken and their message is clear - Americans are sick of one-party rule in Washington," Garbarino stated. "They are sick of living through crisis after crisis brought on by failed policies. We have accomplished so much together over these last two years, but there is so much more work to do, such as securing healthcare for our 9/11 first responders and ending the unjustifiable SALT deduction cap. Next year’s Republican majority is going to get our country back on track by curbing inflation, revitalizing domestic energy production to bring down gas prices, and improving public safety by empowering law enforcement to address rising crime and secure our border. That is our commitment to America and that is my commitment to the people of Long Island."
Gordon conceded the race to Garbarino Wednesday morning.

“Long Island – thank you for everything," she stated. "Although the results may not be what we had hoped for, I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished together. Thank you to every person who came out to support me, to every volunteer who canvassed alongside me, and to my friends and family who have inspired and motivated me throughout this campaign. While I congratulate Mr. Garbarino on his victory, I promise that our fight for progress won’t stop here. I have served our community as an educator, a veteran, a proud union member, and an elected official and my love and dedication to our great community does not end here. You can count on me to continue advocating for each and every member of our community — because we deserve to be heard in the halls of power. I hope you will join me.”
Suffolk County Board of Elections workers had difficulty loading memory cards needed to tally the vote, officials said late Tuesday.
Suffolk’s two party chairs told crowds at their prospective headquarters that it would take hours to tabulate the results, while News 12 is reporting the results might not come until tomorrow night.

Suffolk County communities include Amityville, Copiague, Lindenhurst, Gilgo, West Babylon, Wyandanch, North Babylon, Babylon, Bayport, Baywood, Brentwood, Brightwaters, Central Islip, Islip, Great River, Ocean Beach, Oakdale, West Sayville, Bohemia, West Islip, Ronkonkoma, and parts of Patchogue.
Two years ago, Garbarino defeated Gordon by 177,353 votes to 154,123 — or 52.9 percent to 46 percent. Green Party candidate Harry Burger earned 1 percent of the votes with 3,446, according to Ballotpedia.
Garbarino was challenged in the Republican Primary in August by Robert Cornicelli and Mike Rakebrandt. He maintained his spot on the GOP party line by garnering 9,147 votes — 51.3 percent. Cornicelli picked up 7,078 votes, while Rakebrandt had 1,537. Garbarino would have made the general election regardless on the Conservative Party line.
Gordon had an easier path to the 2022 general election, as she ultimately ran unopposed on the Democratic Party line. Neither Mike Sax or William Hoist, two projected candidates, ended up running against Gordon, according to Ballotpedia. She will also represent the Working Families Party.
