  1. Nassau County police have charged two teens with the stabbing death of a man in Uniondale in December, in front of Fuego Picante Restaurante y Bar. On Jan. 6, police arrested Jose Alcivar Tuarez, 18, of Roosevelt, and a 17-year-old boy, also of Roosevelt, whose name was not released. (Patch)
  2. Hewlett-Woodmere's school board will address the issue of adding Eid to the school calendar at the Jan. 12 work meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the Woodmere Education Center at Johnson Place in Woodmere. A formal decision is expected at the Jan. 19 board meeting. (LI Herald)
  3. In 2020-21, 38 Long Island educators made more than $300,000, and a Lawrence teacher tops the list. Christine O'Malley, an art teacher, was paid $766,000 in 2020-21, but that included money from a settlement. (Subscription: Newsday)
  4. Kenneth Ward, who was Valley Stream South High School’s varsity baseball head coach for almost three decades and athletic director for 17 years, died Dec. 26 following a brief illness. He was 68. (LI Herald)
  5. Nassau County’s new County Executive Bruce Blakeman signed an executive order Thursday giving public schools the option to mandate masks. Opponents say it's illegal and defies state regulations. (CBS New York)
