  1. Friends and family of Irene Maiolica-Spantopanagos started a fundraiser to help her 18-month-old daughter Alessia, after her mother was murdered in Massapequa on March 12. (Patch)
  2. New proposed regulations would require private schools, including Jewish yeshivas, to demonstrate they meet state academic requirements, according to accrediting agencies. The new proposed rules were introduced this week at a meeting of the state Board of Regents. (Subscription: Newsday)
  3. Long Island area codes with majority Black and Latino populations had higher than average hospitalization rates during the omicron COVID-19 surge. Inwood's rate was 5.38 per 1,000, and Valley Stream's was 5.21. (Subscription: Newsday)
