1. A federal court has ordered a thoroughbred horse racing stable and its owner to pay back wages of over $130,000. Danny Gargan and his Gargan Stables Corp. improperly paid certain employees at Belmont and Aqueduct racetracks and stables and denied workers' overtime. (Patch)
2. Non-public school administrators are waiting for at-home COVID-19 tests, like Hebrew Academy of Long Beach Lower School Principal Richard Altabe. Lawrence schools distributed the kits to families on Jan. 6 but some of the half million private school students in the state have not yet received any. (LI Herald)
3. The low temperatures yesterday and today are creating black ice on Long Island roadways. A single-digit air feel can lead to frostbite on exposed skin. (News 12)
