- State Assemblywoman Melissa “Missy” Miller (R-Atlantic Beach) will replace Bruce Blakeman on the Town of Hempstead board as the representative for the Third Councilmanic District. She resigned her seat, to join the board, after Blakeman became Nassau County Executive on Jan. 1. (LI Herald)
- A Farmingdale man who was part of the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot pleaded guilty Friday to ten counts including felony charges of assaulting a law enforcement officer. Greg Rubenacker, 26, admitted to being in the building while officers were removing the mob. (Subscription: Newsday)
- Owners of Long Island bars and restaurants are hoping the lifting of New York’s indoor mask mandate before Super Bowl and Valentine’s Day will be good for business. (News 12)
