- Two people were arrested in Woodmere last weekend for having a loaded gun in a car. Two police officers were injured during the arrest at the Doxy Brook fishing park. Tevon Johnson, 22, of Brooklyn, was taken into custody following a brief struggle. (Patch)
- Zion Park in Lawrence is getting upgraded. New playground structures will be ready in 2022. (LI Herald)
- The battle of the future of the Woodmere Club could reach a resolution soon. The developers, Efrem Gerszberg and Robert Weiss, will meet with Town of Hempstead officials and other local leaders on Jan. 18 to discuss a plan for luxury condos, and an 80-acre nature preserve. (LI Herald)

- Reaction is mixed to Valley Stream's plan to hire a Long Beach company to offer a program to protect village homeowners from paying thousands of dollars to fix leaky sewer pipes.
The program wants to help owners of older homes repair leaky underground pipes that could affect ground water. (Subscription: Newsday) - Parents in Valley Stream are divided on County Executive Bruce Blakeman's order that school districts vote on school masking. (LI Herald)
- Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library will show "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" on a big screen this Sunday at 2 p.m. (Facebook)
