Man Stopped With No Front License Plate, Illegal Firearm: PD
The arrest happened Monday morning in Hewlett.
HEWLETT, NY — A man was arrested at a traffic stop in Hewlett for having an illegal firearm, police said.
Loquinne Mathis Jr., 21, of Queens, was traveling westbound on Main Street near Howland Avenue at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Monday, police said.
He was pulled over for driving without a front license plate, police said.

Officers discovered in their investigation that Mathis had a suspended driver's license and was wanted for a burglary by Cranford Township Police in New Jersey, authorities said.
Mathis was placed under arrest without incident.

Further investigation resulted in an unloaded illegal firearm, a USPS jacket, a credit card scanner, and two printers being recovered from the vehicle, police said.
He is charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and outstanding New Jersey burglary warrant and several traffic infractions, police said.
Mathis was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
