Northwell Health announced today the opening of a new orthopedic hospital at LIJ Valley Stream.

Northwell invested $13.5 million to create the new 9,761-foot-facility that includes 18 private patient rooms, advanced operating rooms and a PT unit.

“Opening The Orthopedic Hospital is a key milestone at Long Island Jewish Valley Stream that will enhance our standing across Long Island and Queens,” said Steve Bello, executive director at LIJ Valley Stream. ”While we have been providing exceptional orthopedic care to our patients for years, we’re taking it to another level by creating boutique, patient-centric accommodations within a facility that is still part of a full-service hospital. The Orthopedic Hospital at LIJ Valley Stream is a center of orthopedic excellence that will attract patients from throughout the region.”

Surgeons from Orlin & Cohen Orthopedic Group and the health system’s orthopedic service line have selected The Orthopedic Hospital as a destination of choice for their patients, according to Northwell. They are performing a full range of surgical and nonsurgical treatments, including arthroscopic and minimally invasive procedures. Surgeons also have expertise in repairing and replacing previous joint replacements, and performing complicated reoperations for sports-related injuries, from diagnosis to rehabilitation.

The new facility's staff specializes in general orthopedics, surgery, fractures, sports medicine, foot and ankle, hand, total joint replacement and spine surgery. The Orthopedic Hospital has received the highest rating from The Joint Commission’s Healthcare Quality Certification in knee and hip replacement surgery, according to Northwell.
