Here are the top three stories today in Five Towns:
- New York State has announced the cleanup of a former sheet metal fabrication factory in Inwood. The vacant 4.85-acre lot at 175 Roger Ave. in Inwood is a Brownfield Site and cleanup efforts will begin this month and last until April. (Patch)
- Bellmore and Freeport residents were among those Long Islanders charged with illegally entering the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021. Six Long Islanders in total are among those accused of participating in the riots. (Patch)
- Hewlett's boys wrestling team is one of two on Long Island to be ranked top 10 in the state. The Bulldogs won the King of the Mat tournament on Dec. 11, featuring 14 teams with some of Long Island’s best such as Long Beach, MacArthur, Hauppauge and Chaminade. (LI Herald)

- All seven villages in the Five Towns area are now officially part of the 400 New York municipalities that opted out of allowing licenses for marijuana consumption or retail dispensary businesses by the Dec. 31 deadline. (LI Herald)
- The New York Islanders are adding games to replace canceled games due to COVID-19. On Jan. 18, the team will make up a postponed game against Philadelphia. (Patch)
