PSEG Worker Assaulted On The Job In Nassau: Police
John Spears faces charges of assault, menacing and criminal mischief, police said.
EAST ROCKAWAY, NY — A Lynbrook man was arrested and charged with assaulting a PSEG employee on Saturday in East Rockaway, police said.
The 61-year-old victim was working as an environmental engineer investigating materials on Atlantic Avenue in the vicinity of Marina Pointe Drive.
John Spears, 33, of 123 South Franklin Avenue, confronted the worker and a verbal argument ensued, police said.

Spears struck the victim repeatably causing his glasses to fall and break, authorities said.
The victim immediately called 911. Upon police arrival, Spears was placed under arrest without incident. The victim suffered pain to his right hand and wrist and was evaluated at scene but refused further medical treatment, police said.

Spears was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. While receiving treatment at the hospital, he became aggressive and irate, kicking a wall that caused extensive damage, police said.
Spears is charged with second-degree assault, two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief and third-degree menacing, police said.
He was expected to be arraigned on Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead.
