Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?
Katie Matthies is one of the best teachers we've encountered during my son's educational journey. Katie Matthies puts her heart and soul into teaching and advocating for our special children. She loves what she chose as a career and it shows. Over the past two years, we've gotten to experience what it's like to have Mrs. Matthies as a teacher and she has been beyond phenomenal. She really cares about her students, not just when they are in school but during break, holidays, summer, etc. She shows up for their camp shows, checks in to see how they are doing, especially if they are having a difficult day. It means so much to have a teacher like Katie Matthies. Her impact is lifelong.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the teacher?
Katie Matthies is a gem of a teacher. She gets the ins and outs of Special Education and the challenges that families with special needs students and families face. She doesn't just want her students to have a good education, she wants them to have a great life.
