Here are the top three stories today in Five Towns:

  1. A Seaford grandmother helped catch a would-be scammer. The 28-year-old, Joshua Estrella Gomez, of Mineola, was pretending to be a bail bondsman but the 73-year-old woman got the police involved, who arrested the man trying to scam $8,000 from her. (News 12)
  2. Nassau County will run out of 516 phone numbers by the second quarter of 2023. The New York State Public Service Commission announced Thursday plans to authorize a new area code. (Subscription:Newsday)
  3. A Lynbrook pizzeria was ordered to pay more than $178,000 in back wages, damages and civil penalties for failing to pay employees overtime after a federal investigation. Regina’s Pizzeria, also called Lynbrook Pizza & Pasta Inc., and its owner Nunzio DiLorenzo were ordered by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York to pay $84,160 in fines.
