The shark was seen Thursday afternoon in Hewlett Point Beach.
HEWLETT BAY, NY — There was a shark sighting on Thursday afternoon at Hewlett Point Beach, the Town of Hempstead wrote on X.
The beach was "red-flagged," keeping everyone out of the water for at least an hour.
"Our highly skilled lifeguards are on alert and will continue to monitor the waters," the tweet said.
